Marlin End Cap & Rossi R95 MAS Handguard Installation Instructions

For Ranger Point Precision Marlin 1894/1895/End Cap Models and Rossi R95

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

Before beginning installation:

• Ensure the firearm is completely unloaded
• Open the action and visually inspect the chamber
• Verify the magazine tube is empty
• Remove all live ammunition from the workspace
• Wear eye protection

Tools Required

• Bench block
• Non-marring hammer
• Non-marring punch
• Flathead screwdriver
• 3/32″ Allen key
• 5/64″ Allen key
• Blue or Purple Loctite
• Inch-pound torque wrench
• 600-grit wet/dry sandpaper
• Light oil

Torque Specifications

Use a calibrated inch-pound torque wrench whenever possible.

Thread Locker

Apply Blue (242) or Purple (222) Loctite to all mounting screws unless otherwise specified.

Important

• Handguard set screws for alignment.
• Set screws should only lightly contact the barrel.
• Overtightening set screws can affect handguard alignment and damage threads.
• Verify handguard alignment before applying final torque.
• Allow the thread locker to cure before firing.

Installation Instructions

Step 1 – Verify Firearm is Unloaded

Before starting:

1. Open the action.
2. Verify the chamber is empty.
3. Verify the magazine tube is empty.
4. Remove all ammunition from the work area.

DISASSEMBLY

Step 2 – Remove Factory End Cap

1. Remove the two factory end cap screws.
2. Remove the magazine tube retaining screw.

WARNING

Magazine tubes are under spring tension.

Maintain control of the end cap and magazine spring during removal.

Step 3 – Remove Factory Handguard

1. Carefully lift the end cap away from the rifle.
2. Remove the magazine spring.
3. Slide the magazine tube forward.
4. Remove the factory handguard.

NOTE

Factory handguards are often tightly fitted between the receiver and tenon.

If necessary:

• Use the magazine tube as a gentle pry point.
• Use a plastic or wooden wedge near the tenon area.
• Avoid excessive force that may damage the factory handguard.

Step 4 – Remove Factory Tenon

Using a bench block and non-marring punch:

1. Support the barrel properly.
2. Drive the factory tenon from the dovetail.
3. Remove the factory tenon.

Step 5 – Fit RPP Tenon

The supplied RPP tenon is intentionally oversized.

Test fit the tenon into the barrel dovetail.

If necessary:

1. Apply a small amount of oil to 600-grit wet/dry sandpaper.
2. Sand only the flat surface of the tenon.
3. Test fit frequently.

IMPORTANT

• Remove material slowly.
• Do not use power tools.
• Excessive material removal can permanently damage fitment.
• The tenon should install with moderate force and remain secure.

Step 6 – Install RPP Tenon

1. Align the RPP tenon with the barrel dovetail.
2. Drive the tenon into place using a non-marring punch.
3. Verify the tenon is centered.

IMPORTANT

• The tenon should fit snugly without excessive force.
• If desired, the tenon may be secured with Blue Loctite.
• Do not overtighten or deform the tenon during installation.

HANDGUARD INSTALLATION

Step 7 – Install Magazine Tube into Handguard

IMPORTANT

The magazine tube must be installed into the handguard before final assembly.

1. Insert the magazine tube through the handguard.
2. Ensure the magazine tube is oriented correctly.
3. Verify the loading gate relief section is positioned properly.

NOTE

On 1895 and .444 models with enlarged magazine tubes, the magazine tube and handguard must be assembled together before installation onto the rifle.

Step 8 – Install Handguard Assembly

1. Slide the handguard and magazine tube assembly onto the rifle.
2. Insert the rear flange into the receiver.
3. Seat the handguard over the RPP tenon.
4. Verify the handguard is fully seated.

If necessary, lightly tap the handguard into place using a non-marring block.

Step 9 – Install Magazine Tube and End Cap

1. Reinstall the magazine spring.
2. Reinstall the factory end cap.
3. Reinstall the magazine tube retaining screw.
4. Tighten securely.

Step 10 – Install Tenon Screws

1. Install the supplied tenon screws through the handguard.
2. Thread into the RPP tenon.
3. Leave slightly loose for alignment.

IMPORTANT

Do not fully tighten at this stage.

Step 11 – Install Alignment Set Screws

Install all four set screws.

Locations:

• Two front set screws
• Two rear set screws

IMPORTANT

• Apply Blue or Purple Loctite before installation.
• Set screws should only lightly contact the barrel.

Step 12 – Center Handguard

Visually inspect the gap between the handguard and barrel.

Adjust until:

• Both sides appear even.
• The handguard sits parallel to the barrel.
• The magazine tube remains properly aligned.

MAS & Gator Rail Installation

The MAS system utilizes one or two Gator Rails mounted to the top of the handguard.

Step 14 – Position Gator Rail

1. Determine the desired Gator Rail location.
2. Place the Gator Rail into the mounting pocket on top of the handguard.
3. Verify orientation before installing hardware.

NOTE

Most users will orient the Gator Rail toward the muzzle.

Step 15 – Install Mounting Screws

1. Install the four large mounting screws.
2. Start all screws by hand.
3. Verify the Gator Rail sits flush against the handguard.

IMPORTANT

Do not cross-thread the mounting screws.

Recommended:

• Test fit all hardware first.
• Remove one screw at a time and apply Purple Loctite before final assembly.

Step 16 – Install Jack Screws

1. Install the four jack screws directly behind the mounting screws.
2. Tighten until they lightly contact the handguard surface.

IMPORTANT

Do not overtighten.

The mounting screws and jack screws work against one another to clamp the Gator Rail securely in place.

Step 17 – Final Tightening

After confirming alignment:

• Gator Rail Mounting Screws — Hand Tight
• Jack Screws — Hand Tight

IMPORTANT

• Apply Purple or Blue Loctite to mounting screws.
• Do not overtighten.
• Excessive torque may damage aluminum threads.

Final Inspection

Before use:

• Verify all screws are secure.
• Ensure the handguard is centered.
• Confirm proper magazine tube alignment.
• Cycle the action to verify proper function.
• Confirm no interference between the handguard, barrel, or magazine tube.

Installation is now complete.
